What Is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a form of psychotherapy – it helps people overcome psychological, emotional and sometimes physical problems. Medical science has, for a long time, know about the healing power inside the mind.

This effect is so powerful that when a new procedure or new medication are developed they must be tested very rigorously against the mind’s ability to “spontaneously” heal a given problem. In hypnosis, the hypnotist has a tool to talk directly with a person’s unconscious mind in order to stimulate this healing process.

Most hypnotists or hypnotherapists are laymen. They are usually not medical doctors or psychiatrist, although there is an increasing number of certified doctors, nurses, psychiatrists and psychologists who have taken up the practice of hypnosis to help their patients.

In hypnosis, the hypnotist helps his or her client to bypass the mechanisms inside the mind that prevent changes from happening. These mechanisms are usually very beneficial in a normal healthy person – they keep us sane and allow us to navigate through the world. However when they prevent you from making positive changes in your life, they can be very destructive.

When the parts of the mind that do this are turned off, you experience a tremendous freedom to experience things in a totally new way, and call upon hidden abilities that you might not even know you posses!

A Hypnotherapist, then, helps you to open your mind and access these powerful abilities.

Sometimes amazing things can happen that are close to a miracle (like the spontaneous remissions of cancer and other “incurable” diseases.) However you should know that these “miracles” are unpredictable and don’t always come, or develop fully, even with the help of a great hypnotist.

There are still too many unknowns about the mind and about the miraculous healing process that the body is capable of. So whilst hypnosis can definitely assist and enhance the physical healing process, it is always recommended that you use hypnosis in conjunction with regular, mainstream medical care and advice if you have any kind of health issue!

With other issues, hypnosis has proven itself to be a very reliable tool that gets highly predictable and dependable results. The kinds of issues that hypnosis has this kind of proven track record for are:

  • Stopping bad habits (smoking, over-eating, nail biting, bed wetting etc.)
  • Starting GOOD habits (exercise, studying, healthy eating etc.)
  • Overcoming fears and phobias (including test anxiety, performance anxiety, panic attacks, fear of flying and most phobias)
  • Improving memory & learning
  • Enhancing your relationships
  • Developing emotional control (including dealing with anger, fear, sadness, grief and guilt)
  • Increasing your self esteem
  • Cultivating a state of inner peace
  • Letting go of the past
  • Enhancing Sports performance (much of Sports Psychology relies on hypnosis!)
  • Developing better instincts and intuitions
  • Overcoming insomnia
  • Minimising – and often eradicating – pain
  • Boosting the immune system
  • Battling stress and stress-related diseases (which are wide ranging from conditions like IBS to psoriasis and ulcers!)

There are of course many more uses to which hypnosis has successfully been applied, however this list should give you a good all round idea of the practical uses of hypnosis!

“It’s like a miracle has happened. I’ve always wanted to really believe in the power of the mind, but I didn’t have the strength to stop myself… It’s amazing and I’m happy. My hair is growing back and I look forward to one day in the future wearing my hair down in public.
Thanks so much, Karsten! ”

My name is Sarah & I would like to tell you a little about how Karsten helped me:
A quick history – I started pulling my hair out around the age of 17 after a particularly stressful situation. It progressively got worse & I suppose it was always at worst during stress-situations. Unfortunately, it became part of my everyday life, i.e. a really bad habit. It was awful! Before the session with Karsten I hadn’t worn my hair down in public in over 10 years (& even before then it was only once since I started pulling!) This habit/disorder is called “trichotillomania” & had had its arms tightly around me for 22 years!
It’s like a miracle has happened. I’ve always wanted to really believe in the power of the mind, but I didn’t have the strength to stop myself. After a million broken promises to myself I was at the end of my tether!
A friend had gone to Karsten to stop smoking (which worked). I got his details called and here I am today to tell my story! I went twice (Karsten felt that with such a long standing habit I should go twice). And I have been “pull-free” for a month! I think about it a lot (because it played such a significant part in my life) and am amazed that I no longer have the urge to pull! My hand has gone to my hair (especially in the beginning) but the urge to pull is gone, it’s like the habit of my hand going to my head still crops up, but the need to pull is completely gone. It’s amazing and I’m happy. My hair is growing back and I look forward to one day in the future wearing my hair down in public.
Thanks so much, Karsten!
