Hypnotherapy is a form of psychotherapy – it helps people overcome psychological, emotional and sometimes physical problems. Medical science has, for a long time, know about the healing power inside the mind.
This effect is so powerful that when a new procedure or new medication are developed they must be tested very rigorously against the mind’s ability to “spontaneously” heal a given problem. In hypnosis, the hypnotist has a tool to talk directly with a person’s unconscious mind in order to stimulate this healing process.
Most hypnotists or hypnotherapists are laymen. They are usually not medical doctors or psychiatrist, although there is an increasing number of certified doctors, nurses, psychiatrists and psychologists who have taken up the practice of hypnosis to help their patients.
In hypnosis, the hypnotist helps his or her client to bypass the mechanisms inside the mind that prevent changes from happening. These mechanisms are usually very beneficial in a normal healthy person – they keep us sane and allow us to navigate through the world. However when they prevent you from making positive changes in your life, they can be very destructive.
When the parts of the mind that do this are turned off, you experience a tremendous freedom to experience things in a totally new way, and call upon hidden abilities that you might not even know you posses!
A Hypnotherapist, then, helps you to open your mind and access these powerful abilities.
Sometimes amazing things can happen that are close to a miracle (like the spontaneous remissions of cancer and other “incurable” diseases.) However you should know that these “miracles” are unpredictable and don’t always come, or develop fully, even with the help of a great hypnotist.
There are still too many unknowns about the mind and about the miraculous healing process that the body is capable of. So whilst hypnosis can definitely assist and enhance the physical healing process, it is always recommended that you use hypnosis in conjunction with regular, mainstream medical care and advice if you have any kind of health issue!
With other issues, hypnosis has proven itself to be a very reliable tool that gets highly predictable and dependable results. The kinds of issues that hypnosis has this kind of proven track record for are:
There are of course many more uses to which hypnosis has successfully been applied, however this list should give you a good all round idea of the practical uses of hypnosis!
